Streets for People phases 1 and 2

In 2021, Nottingham City Council was allocated £18 million from the Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ Fund in response to the ‘Renewing Local Streets’ Bid.
(Frustrating to hear this generally referred to as investment; whilst all such works can contain new elements, it would be more generally understood as maintenance.)
£11 million of this grant was allocated to the ‘Streets for People’ (SfP) Programme to be spent by the end of March 2024.

The table that shows what has been completed within The Meadows as part of Phase 1.

Phase 1 included a bin replacement programme.

The Streets for People 2 Programme is targeted at public highway improvements, prioritised at a ward level, and is scoped under two core themes:
– Highway Maintenance (incorporating Clean and Green improvements to streets)
– Traffic Management and Road Safety
This funding is aimed at improving local roads for cycling and walking across our neighbourhoods and is additional money to upgrade routes to our local districts, town centres and green areas across the city. This programme will actively support the Council Plan Commitment to “Improve the condition of Nottingham’s road network, including more permanent road repairs, fewer temporary pothole repairs, resurfacing 100 roads and improving 50 pavements”

For the Meadows ward share of the remaining £7 million, we’ll explore candidates for works that includes:
Bathley Street – Lamcote Gr, Wilford Cres E & Mundella Rd Junctions only – renewed carriageway; Bathley Street – Wilford Gr to Embankment PH – footpath surface treatment;
Bunbury Street – between Radcliffe and Bathley; and from Pyatt Street to Bathley Street – renewed carriageway;
Lady Bay Bridge / Meadow Lane – Joint with Dales – Alterations to the traffic signal junction to provide pedestrian crossing facilities
Quayside Close and Arkwright Walk – Residents Parking Scheme
Robin Hood Way / Soudan Drive inbound bus stop

Although this list might be slightly over the £262,000 budget.

3 or 4 dropped kerbs are being planned, using Area Capital money.
