The 172nd anniversary of the Battle of Mapperley Hills, the end of almost a week of industrial action organised by the Chartists, as their leaders were arrested and their supporters lost political support cos of the stone throwing they’d resorted to.
The history is written up elsewhere, although the wiki article surprises me in asserting that the title is seen as mocking since the labour movement were to mark the event for years to come.
The arrests were most likely to have taken place on the land upon which Corby Road, Marnham Road and Hampstead Road are now built on; and the pertinent point this year is that these are streets that carried the names of German cities, but were changed because of the First World War.
P.S. My nephew and I made a video, but the sound is not great and the facts might not be entirely accurate either.
