Back to her old neighbourhood, Lilian Greenwood calls on residents of Castle Marina.

A lovely spring evening, the Castle Marina Park grounds were blooming and tidy, and the air was fragrant (Orange Blossom I think).

Met one resident on her way back from work.

Castle Meadow Road in the spring sunshine

Quick drive around this afternoon in case there was something to report.
Extensive building going on, with the outbound track being prepared down Meadows Way West, and Riverside school being expanded.
Some tipping in abandoned properties, a removed concrete bollard, some out of order car parking.
Toured Castle Marina and Castle Meadow Road, where the tax offices, with their green architecture, looked good in the sunshine. Magpie looked happy enough, but it was colder than it looked; with hail on the ground when I got back home.

Slightly strange start to the year

20140108-180043.jpg
The N Post published a short article on a developer compound planned for Meadows Recreation Ground (see graphic; published Saturday).
But they’ve got the wrong construction works. It’s for the second phase of new housing on Green Street and Hunter Street and will be like the compound for phase 1, providing “staff welfare facilities”.
The article caused local concern – and was a slightly strange start to the year.
Money from the use will be spent on facilities for the park.
Other local issues –
– a planning application for using a former shop at the junction of Woolmer Road and Holgate Road as a religious education facility has caused concern;
– the consultation for a 20mph speed limit for the Castle Marina neighbourhoods reaches its legal consultation stage soon;
– misc. housing enquiries.
Meanwhile, the counter at The Meadows Police Station formally closes from 13th January to 31st March.

Using planning permission obtained from Planning Committee in November 2010, Castle Marina Sainsbury’s to re-site petrol station at the west end of their large car park.
I understand works start next week.

The most significant change from 2010 is the introduction of a new access using a new roundabout on Castle Bridge Road (not shown here).

Opening a kitchen shop

20130719-023833 PM.jpg

Somewhat unusually – i.e. the first time in 20 years – I was called on to open a local shop, alongside co-Councillor Nicola.
Wren kitchens are developing a new chain, taking advantage of the gap left by MFI, but also taking a step forward with a new cutting and manufacturing plant near Hull which delivers the high precision cut kitchens units as carcasses rather than flat packs, allowing them to claim their furniture is more sturdy.
I was rather taken by the high technology oven on display there, which had a company chef all the way from London to demonstrate all the various options and advantages, including cooking tarts and pies without having to worry about the base not getting crisp. I was sold until I saw the price. For all that, the cheese on mushroom sauce on toast was a delight.
Have to say, my Susan found the idea of me opening a kitchens shop slightly comical.
