The Sound of Silence

Projections broadcast at 10pm.

** That sound of a deep and dispirited, miserable silence. **

In 2017, we waited for the exit poll near the screen at the count, and were filmed, delighted and in part surprised as Labour’s better than expected performance was announced.

This year, there was no such huddle and no such expectation.
And as the new prediction was broadcast through the hall, there was an exaggerated whoop from one Conservative activist, surpassed and dominated by a deep and dispirited, miserable silence.

The silence.
The death of hope and the re-loading of burden.
