Greener homes mean cheaper energy bills

Agreed plans for new social housing in Lenton and Radford today. The properties are being built to code level 4 and that means that 25% greener than current building regulations require.
But I wonder if opportunities to be greener are being missed. Like using awnings to keep summer sunshine out of buildings. Like creating southward facing roofs, ready to host photo-voltaic panels. Or even using photo-voltaic panels as awnings!
Plans today do put getting the fabric of the buildings right first.
Our priorities of course are not only green, but are also about minimising the running costs of new buildings.
